A sequel to the beloved 2017 animated film “Coco” is officially in the works, bringing audiences back to the vibrant world of music, family, and the Land of the Dead!

Disney CEO Bob Iger announced the exciting news at The Walt Disney Company’s Annual Meeting of Shareholders, promising the film will be filled with “humor, heart, and adventure.”
“While the film is just in the initial stages, we know it will be full of humor, heart, and adventure,” he noted. “And we can’t wait to share more soon.”
Pixar also shared the announcement on its official social media pages with the caption, “Disney and Pixar’s Coco 2 is officially in the works!”

The team behind the original film—director Lee Unkrich, co-director Adrian Molina, and producer Mark Nielsen—is set to reunite for “Coco 2,” which is slated for release in 2029. As of writing, further details have yet to be revealed.
“Coco” follows the story of a 12-year-old Miguel, who is accidentally transported to the Land of the Dead. There, he seeks the help of his deceased musician great-great-grandfather to return to his family and lift their ban on music.
The film won two Academy Awards, a Golden Globe, and a British Academy Film Award (BAFTA). It was also named Best Animated Film of 2017 by the National Board of Review.
