Cinco de Mayhem: This Music Festival is a Celebration of Culture

Since Filipinos love to party, you can expect vibrant festivities all over the country. Within the Metro alone, there is already a wide array of electrifying music festivals that take place every year.

Veering away from electric dance music and excessive pounding of fists in the air, Cinco De Mayhem is the first of its kind, mixing the richness of Mexican culture and the unrelenting spirit highlighted in this widely-celebrated annual occasion.

With the aim of eliminating the misconception on Cinco de Mayo, Creative Director Alexander Diaz tells us that apart from wearing sombreros and drinking tequila, he wants to give people a taste of the experience as the story of Cinco De Mayhem unfolds, so that we may learn more about the culture.

Launching on May 4, Diaz also tells us that Cinco De Mayhem is going to be the first of many. His team plans on incorporating Aztec, as well, and really diving into authentic Mexican culture.

If you’ve seen the Disney movie Coco, this is your chance to experience what it’s like to be in the shoes of Miguel, embracing all of the beauty of music, the youthful spirit, the community, and life itself on one ground-breaking night. What sets this music festival apart is the fact that it aims to be culturally accurate. With the help of the Mexican Embassy, the team behind this unique artistic revelry made sure that everything they prepared was appropriate—from the costumes to the music to the instruments used by the live acts.
