Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe got a surprise this week with the release of a new teaser for Avengers: Doomsday. In the one-and-a-half-minute clip, we see Chris Evans reprising his role as Steve Rogers.

The teaser opens with a piano rendition of the Avengers theme. Steve Rogers is seen riding a motorcycle before arriving at a house, where he sets a blue helmet aside. Inside, he pulls out a scaled, star-spangled costume—familiar to fans from the battle against Thanos—and is shown holding a newborn baby with a smile. The teaser ends with a message confirming his return and a countdown to the film’s release on December 18, 2026.
This scene matches descriptions circulating from a leaked trailer, as reported by Variety. Additional trailers focusing on other characters are expected to follow, including one reportedly featuring Thor.

Directors Anthony and Joe Russo shared the teaser on Instagram with the caption: “The character that changed our lives. The story that brought us all here together. It was always going to come back to this.”
The brothers originally retired Rogers’ Captain America in Avengers: Endgame, passing the mantle to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie).
Evans had previously stated in June 2025 that he would not appear in the latest Avengers installment, describing the situation as “sad” but expressing confidence in the film’s outcome. Fans may also remember his cameo as the Human Torch in Deadpool & Wolverine, revisiting a character he first played in 2005’s Fantastic Four.
Avengers: Doomsday will bring together original cast members, including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, and more. X-Men stars such as Channing Tatum, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, and Alan Cumming are also reportedly joining the crossover.
