Amidst the controversial sea dispute between the Philippines and China, China has released an Army Navy recruitment video to encourage young Chinese to join the People’s Liberation Army Navy.
The video starts out playing like a tourism ad, showing the streets, buildings, and activities you can do in the country like attend concerts, go snowboarding, and go diving. It also shows young Chinese graduating and a group of people posing in front of the ruins of St. Paul’s Church in Macau.
Suddenly, it shifts gears and shows Chinese text with the subtitle “Call of Duty.” It then shows off its military assets like submarines, warships, and fighter jets.
It also shows footage of the Diaoyutai/Senkaku islets in the East China Sea (also claimed by Japan and Taiwan) and the South China Sea. The footage is combined with other footage of falling bombs and rockets being fired. The footage is captioned with: Seventy-one percent of the globe we depend on is blue water… wherever there is blue water, we will be there to secure navigation…China’s oceanic and overseas interests are expanding rapidly…our land is vast but we will not yield an inch of our territory to foreigners.
It also says, “The struggle over our sea rights is not over. We will not yield even the tiniest speck of our resources.”
