Two municipal districts, Xisha District and Nansha District, have been approved and recognized by China’s State Council yesterday, April 18th, according to CCTV Asia Pacific.
Xisha District will administer both Xisha and Zhongsha waters, reefs, and islands while Nansha District will cover Nansha waters, reefs, and islands. Both districts are located in Sansha City, Hainan, in the South China Sea.
Sansha is the southernmost city of Hainan province, located near the Spratly Islands. Sansha City is on Woody Island which currently administers other islands and island groups in the South China Sea, such as the Spratly Islands, the Paracel Islands, Scarborough Shoal, etc.
