CHECK THIS OUT: This Live Gig Celebrates the Aytas of Porac, Pampanga!

Pakundangan, which means reverence and respect, is an online live music gig happening on April 4, 2020 (4-11 pm) on Jess & Pat’s Facebook page. Started by Lia Alfonso, a graduating senior in Ateneo de Manila University, Pakundangan Benefit Gig is her thesis project for the benefit of the Ayta community in Katutubo Village in Porac, Pampanga.

Lia is a member of Barefoot Philippines, a sector-based organization in the Ateneo that functions in support of UNICEF. Through this organization, she got to meet the Aytas of Katutubo Village, leading her to direct her thesis towards being of service to their community. As the guitarist and lead vocalist of folk-pop band Indayo, Lia began planning a small concert for the benefit of Katutubo Village. Part of the proceeds of this event will be for the implementation and construction of sustainable water pumps in Katutubo Village at Porac, Pampanga, a project being executed by Barefoot Philippines.

But given the current health situation of the country, the event is now not only geared to help the Aytas at Katutubo Village but also to extend a helping hand to the Filipino medical frontliners battling this pandemic. Therefore, part of the proceeds of this event will also be utilized to purchase food, water, supplies and personal protective equipment (PPEs) of the medical frontliners.

Pakundangan will feature online performances by Leanne and Naara, Bullet Dumas, Syd Hartha, and Gelo; and art by Reine So, Vernice S. Madrigal, and Victor Mariano.

This live music and arts gig is in partnership with the Aeta Tribe Foundation, Barefoot Philippines, KATRIBU – UP Diliman Chapter, Nature’s Spring Water, and The UP Music Circle. For more information, visit the Pakundangan Benefit Gig Facebook page!
