Apolinario was a celebrated face of media, rising to his status from being a vendor to service crew worker to camera man to broadcast journalist. He was familiar to those who tuned in to 24 Oras, Saksi, i-Witness, and iJuander. A respected veteran reporter and director, he will be sorely missed by those in and out of the industry.

Journalist Mell Navarro bid him a touching farewell on a Facebook post, praising him for his work and the fight he put up. He also thanked him for his service to delivering the truth to viewers and to his commitment to the news.

“Rest well, Direk Cesar, and thanks for the friendship,” Navarro wrote under a photo collage of Direk Apolinario, extending his sympathies to his family and friends.

EDIT: The cause of death has been revealed to be heart failure due to his lymphoma.
