Celebrate the 2nd International Day of Yoga on June 18th @ the Ayala Triangle

United Nations declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga (IDY) in December 2014. June 21 was chosen as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares special significance in many parts of the world. It is also the Summer Solstice, which marks the southward movement of the Sun.

Yoga, a 5000 year old tradition, is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. Yoga is much more than exercise; it embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being, a sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature.

The event is sponsored by Wipro Philippines and supported by India Tourism, Lulu-Phils International Exchange Inc, Mahindra Philippines, New India Assurance, and Tamber Tours & Travels. Ayala Land is our venue partner and Make it Makati and WheninManila.com are our Media partners.

In an effort to make the celebration memorable, Embassy of India and partners have lined up a free half-day program which encompasses a wholesome experience of yoga. Suitable for all ages and lifestyles, this event will provide a rich, fun-filled educational & cultural experience through introductory demonstrations and classes of both traditional and contemporary practices of yoga.

The program will begin with a talk on the importance of yoga and a demonstration of the Common Yoga Protocol – a series of prescribed poses that will be performed in all IDY celebrations organized by Indian missions around the world. In Happy Mind, Art of Living Foundation will teach meditation and breathing exercises to reach inner silence and peace.

Welcome the sunset with Vinyasa Music Night by Urban Ashram Yoga. The class will be built around sun salutations, and poses that are sequenced in a thoughtful and creative order tying it all together with feel good music. Iyengar Yoga Center Manila will conduct a demonstration on how Iyengar yoga approaches a few asana, focusing on the alignment of the physical, anatomical, physiological, and psychological body.

Throughout the afternoon and evening, SIF Foundation will demonstrate Kirtan Yoga or Sound Yoga accompanied by live musical performances of different genres. Kirtan or Sound Yoga is the group chanting of Mantras in melody and is a bonafide form of meditation. Regularly hearing Mantras with your heart and singing it with love and affection during Kirtan Yoga can help one achieve self-realization, inner peace, and happiness, which are the real gifts of Yoga.
