Cebu Province Lifts Outdoor Face Mask Requirement

There is no need to wear face masks outdoors in Cebu Province! They are now “optional” in well-ventilated and open spaces, although “highly encouraged” in crowded outdoor areas. This is according to an executive order issued by Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia on June 8, 2022.

However, the use of face masks in closed public areas remains to be required. You will also need to wear them outdoors at all times if you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.

Cebu Province excludes Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, and Cebu City.

The outdoor mask mandate by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) was issued on April 1, 2020, to stem the transmission of coronavirus. With the continuous decline in Covid-19 cases in the province though, Garcia reportedly deemed it appropriate to take steps toward the new normal.

Currently, the towns and cities in the province of Cebu are on Alert Levels 1 and 2 until June 15. Its most recent record shows 23 active and four new cases in the past 14 days, as of writing.

In the metro, the Department of Health (DOH) maintained the face mask policy as part of the minimum public health standards. The National Capital Region (NCR) currently has a record of 1,246 new cases in the past 14 days.
