The 2019 Cats movie, which had successfully earned the ire of many Broadway musical fans and film buffs, has officially been recognized in an annual awards show: The Golden Raspberry Awards. However, it’s not something the producers and the cast should be celebrating about.
The Golden Raspberry Awards, or Razzies, is a parody awards show which honors the worst of cinema—a complete opposite of the coveted Oscar Awards. It’s been giving out trophies to films, celebrities, and directors since 1981. Leading the nominees this year is Cats with a total of 8 nominations, including Worst Picture and Worst Director for Tom Hooper.
Also racking up multiple nominations this year are Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral, Rambo: Last Blood, and The Haunting of Sharon Tate.
The Razzies’ voting body includes 1,071 members who hail from 50 US states and more than two dozen countries.
