Catriona Gray’s dramatic slow-mo at the Miss Universe is called the Lava Walk

Catriona Gray Lava Walk

We live in a time where we name our beauty pageant contestants’ walks down the runway. Venus Raj had the Pilapil walk, while Shamcey Supsup slayed the competition with her Tsunami walk. Janine Tugonon mastered the Cobra walk, and Ariella Arida did the Arriba walk. MJ Lastimosa had the Camel walk, Pia Wurtzbach did the Tanim-bala walk, Maxine Medina showcased her Alta walk, and Rachel Peters unveiled the Infinity walk.

For this year’s contestant Catriona Gray, hers is called the Lava Walk, where she strutted the runway, did her own slow-mo turn, then slayed the rest of the competition.

Watch it below:

Gray developed the now-iconic Lava Walk with the choreographer Carlos Buendia Jr., and it was named after the beauty queen’s birthplace Bicol, which has the Mayon Volcano.

In order to do the walk, Buendia says all you need to do is glide, sway, turn slowly, and boom! Instant eruption.
