A group of 14 senior Multimedia Arts students from Asia Pacific College will be hosting an exhibition entitled “CATHARSIS,” set to run from April 7 to 9, 2017 at the DESIGN CENTER OF THE PHILIPPINES, CCP Complex, Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City.
Catharsis is derived from the Greek word Katharsis, meaning purification or cleansing. It is defined as the process of releasing and thereby providing relief from strong or repressed emotions.
The artists chose Catharsis as the theme for the exhibit because people from all walks of life can relate to the theme, especially millennials. At this age and time, people become more opinionated and thereby use social media as an outlet for pent up emotions. When people tend to stop their emotions, these emotions turn to pent up inside, and this often leads to emotional outbursts. This is common in social media, that ranting is slowly becoming a social norm.
This exhibit aims to show the audience that you can express your emotions in creative ways, believing that art is an expression and that art can be a therapy for a sound state of mind and emotional health (sublimation).
1014 Collective is a team of fourteen passionate artists from the School of Multimedia and Arts at Asia Pacific College, who with their diverse talents, strive to inspire and motivate people using their works. They are composed of Mira Antonio, Jean Borral, Sam Cruz, Kristopher Dalid, Elle Guinto, Mark Miralles, Kae Motol, Joseph Parian, Mel Sabido, Megan Stevens, Rommel Valdez, Lexus Vera, Monica Victorino, and Kei Villanueva.
The exhibit will showcase a collection of multimedia artworks in the likes of traditional and digital paintings, pencil drawings, mixed media art installations, graphic design, sculptures, and game design and development.
Join us on the opening night on April 7, 2017, from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and set to run until April 9, 2017. ADMISSION IS FREE!
