Catēna: Art Exhibition

1 CATENA POSTER

A group of Multimedia Arts students from Asia Pacific College will be holding an exhibition entitled “Catēna,” from August 23 to 25, 2018 at KALYE ART GALLERY, 1220 Estrada St. Singalong Manila.

Catēna is based on the idea of being chained down to something. We are always carrying the weight of that something on our shoulders and sometimes, that weight is what’s stopping us from doing what we want to do, or even from being happy. Weight can be various things: opinion of others, the expectations of our families, a disability, an illness, our own thoughts, and many more. Our chains are not limited to what people can see; most of the time, we are afraid to show others how heavy we feel. We hide our chains in hope of showing people that we are strong, that nothing is holding us back. However, these chains can be too heavy for anyone to carry all the time without asking for help from other or knowing that someone feels the same way. It is our duty as a group of artists to unravel these chains to the public and make it known to them that we all have something weighing us down.

The team, Implicata, aims to showcase the different forms of chains or restrictions that surrounds and consumes a person and depict how people can be hindered from different things because of their chains in the form of various mediums. Lastly, to emphasize that an individual can either let themselves be consumed by those chains or break free from them through various mediums such as film, studio arts and graphic design.
