An offshoot of the legendary Melo’s, Carmelo’s is owned and headed by the founder’s daughter, Cristina Santiago-Rivera. Cristina is also a pastry chef, offering her line of desserts under the Sweet Bella brand, which is fortunately also available for dessert at the restaurant.
There is a subdued luxury to the interiors of Carmelo’s. Warm tones and red hues reverberate a welcoming appeal seen from the outside. Its façade is inviting enough to lure any steak connoisseurs inside.
Appetizers at Carmelo’s Wagyu Steaks
Carmelo’s Wagyu Steaks offers more than just steaks; it proudly displays an array of delectable oysters, as well. Chilled close to frozen, their oysters are the best I have ever had. A hint of Tabasco on fresh delicate oyster meat and you forget your manners trying to slurp the whole thing at one go.
Sautéed in garlic and olive oil, the Prawns Ajillo is a mildly spicy medley of juicy prawns and green chilies.
Reminiscent to bruschetta, their Pan con Tomato has a surprise layer of anchovies under the cheese and diced tomatoes for that salty kick.
Creamy but not overpowering, the French Onion Soup is probably the most compatible soup in their menu to the plethora of steak choices that Carmelo’s has to offer.
Having our bread baskets continuously refilled with freshly baked dinner rolls was also a highlight. Warning: served warm with butter, these become quite addicting waiting for your steak to grill to perfection.
