CARDIMAX CLARK ULTRAMARATHON

The 2016 Cardimax-Clark Ultramarathon, a premier ultramarathon event is set to take-off on September 3 at the Clark Parade Grounds of Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga. Everyone will experience the special camaraderie and friendship among competitors, volunteers, race officials and spectators.

THE PREPARATIONS

The Cardimax-Clark Ultramarathon was designed for runners to inspire each other in the sport.  It started with an 18-week Training Calendar where runners learned from each other and from coaches, fitness professionals and other partners.  The training sessions started with a Runners’ Bootcamp at the Conrad’s Café in Pasadena, San Juan.

RECOVERY IN TRAINING Francis Diano of Pace Prehab & Recovery set the tone right by talking about Injury Prevention and Recognition while training.  He shared valuable tips on managing recovery as runners peak in their training stressing that it is anchored on having proper nutrition, running form, right gears and post training rituals.  After the four-month training, he reminded runners to “Pace it Out!” during the race.  Urban Ashram Yoga gave a brief instructional workout on how to properly stretch and recover the body after a training run.  They are also treating runners with free two-day pass to any of its branches for use post race.

SAFETY Doc Cecille Mendoza of Team Rescue 8 talked about Running Safety.  He emphasized that Safety does not come with the lucky, it has to be prepared.  He left runners with important guides that should be considered during training runs.  Eyecatcher’s Alf Pena Reyes introduced their safety running gears which ensures that you are seen and safe when running.

NUTRITION Ken Go shared about his journey on fitness which is anchored on proper nutrition, ensuring he has enough L-Carnitine supplements in his diet.

LONG RUNS  For the past four months, volunteer running teams spearheaded several group training runs in Metro Manila and in Clark.  Team Matindi, Ayala Triads, Pinoy Aspiring Runners, Soleus, Monumentum Milers, Powerpuff Boys, TukodPh and CDC Team and their friends provided ideal training route and support to all participating runners.  The training runs have been a venue for the runners not just to train themselves physically and mentally and log those distance mileage; it allowed them to bond and learn from each other.  With attendees ranging from runners of all abilities and years of experiences.

THE RACE

After months of rigorous training, the runners will face a 50km road course (two loops for 100km) inside the Clark Freeport Zone which will start and finish at the Clark Parade Grounds in front of Clark Museum. The route will take participants along the main highways of Clark, Air Force City, long stretches of paved, tree-lined roads, passing through scenic and tourist spots.  The route is a mix of flat and rolling hills with 900++ meters of accumulated elevation gain. The weather is expected to be cold as they start at 6pm on Saturday which could turn scorching hot from Sunday morning. There will be aid stations along the route and designated support aid stations.  El Kabayo will host the turnover station for runners doing the relay.

Clark will welcome 360 runners with hundreds of volunteers and spectators on Saturday, September 3.  Runners will have their pre-race day activities and briefing at Royce Hotel and Casino.

RACE WEEKENDa

THE COMPETITORS

The list of runners includes some high level athletes, recent national marathon champions, trail and road long distance run top finishers, last year’s top overall and age group winners and some international runners.  We are expecting a fast race, with course records expected to be challenged by this year’s competitors.  On top of these entrants, the race also is filled with running veterans, age groupers ranging from 22 to 68 year old runners, and ultramarathon first timers.

For all our runners, whether they are eyeing for a top finish or to successfully conquer the route within the cut-off time, we hope they will be able to “dig deep” and explore the innate, possibly dormant, strength in them,,,, HARNESS THEIR OWN ENERGY!
