Brotzeit Brings Back Oktoberfest with Good Food and Great Beer

Brotzeit German Bier Bar and Restaurant brings the legendary Oktoberfest celebration closer to home with their own annual Oktoberfest event; scaling the city-wide celebration of the Oktoberfest in Germany into a smaller (but no less lively!) mini-festival complete with music and dancing, exciting games, and of course: free-flowing beer and authentic Bavarian cuisine. No need to spend funds plus hours on a plane ride to Munich when one can be transported straight to the festivities from the exuberant and inviting walls of Brotzeit at Shangri-La Plaza.

As early at 4PM of the 26th of September, a balloon twister was in the house to entertain the kids on a fun Saturday afternoon. Grown-up festivities began at 7pm, when the night is young and ripe for long hours of rambunctious celebration of good beer, great food, and a little bit of German culture. Fun fact: “Brotzeit” is a typical Bavarian expression, “Brot” meaning bread, and “zeit” for time, referring to the German expression for a small meal or snack served always with a tall, refreshing glass of the purest beer.

However, one will be hard-pressed to limit oneself to a small meal or small glass of beer during Brotzeit’s Oktoberfest, what with their plates of traditional Oktoberfest classics such as Käsespätzle (German cheese noodles), Würstl (sausages) or the infamous Sauerkraut (pickled red cabbage), coupled with the extravagant arrays of Brotzeit’s specials served specially for the occasion. Served at the festivities are mouth-watering dishes such as the Backfisch, beer-battered fish served with golden brown, baked-to-perfection potato wedges; the Jaegarschnitzel , a veal schnitzel doused with the creamiest, richest mushroom sauce; the Zweibelrostbraten, a flank steak cooked to juicy perfection, served with a hearty side of roasted potatoes and mixed vegetables; and the Gebratenes Huhnchen, a dish comprised of beautifully roasted chicken with your choice of sides.

Also, the Oktoberfest celebration is the only time of the year when Brotzeit serves its infamous, belly-busting Oktoberfest Platter, a gastronomical presentation of Brotzeit’s best, comprised of crispy oven-roasted pork knuckles, the best of Brotzeit’s extensive sausage selection, a good helping of honey Bavarian pork ribs, and two sides of your choosing. Warning: it’s best not to brave the Oktoberfest platter alone! As for beer, one cannot simply restrain oneself to a simple glass when presented with the full-bodied Weihenstephaner Oktoberfestbier; a full, rich-bodied, happy seasonal lager especially brewed this season. This beer truly represents the Bavarian way of celebrating with its deep gold color, great mouthfeel and loads of flavor which, when paired with such mouth-watering cuisine, brings out the best flavors in the food!

Though the food and drink alone are enough to seduce any Oktoberfest newcomer into the fray, a celebration is never complete without entertainment or games! Brotzeit’s Oktoberfest highlights two exciting games: The Guzzler, where teams of three join a beer drinking relay, with the fastest team to gulp down their beers declared as winners; and The Server, a testament to one’s upper body strength and love of beer, where contestants must hold their 1-liter beer steins in their hands with their arms outstretched straight – last contestant to keep the beer up, wins! Winners of the games are sure to win some amazing loot from sponsors such as Jägermeister, BMW Motorrad, and Bosch among others so drop by and hope luck is on your side!
