It’s not every day that an icon like Britney Spears visits the Philippines. After all, she was the Taylor Swift of ’90s kids. Many of the people who grew up in the decade were fans, while non-fans still knew songs like “…Baby One More Time” and “Oops!… I Did It Again.” So when it was announced that she will be sneaking away to the Philippines for the first time, as part of her Britney: Live in Concert tour, everyone went crazy. Tickets were quickly sold out.
Yes, tickets were expensive, but they were worth it. Spears gave an incredible performance of her greatest hits, from “I’m a Slave 4 U” to “Toxic,” “Womanizer,” “Stronger,” and “(You Drive Me) Crazy.” What was wonderful about the concert is that the setlist is composed of her most popular songs, which means everyone in the concert can sing along. Usually, other singers’ concerts are made up of songs taken from their latest album, since they have to promote that. And boy did everyone sing along to Brit’s concert.
The night started with “Work B*tch.” Spears entered wearing a green sparkling swimsuit, a cape, and a hat. For someone who has been in the industry since 1998 (and who had a breakdown in 2007), the singer looks fit and stunning.
She gracefully performed the song, complete with complex dance moves. She then kept the energy up withย “Womanizer,” “Break the Ice,” and “Piece of Me.”
It was a road trip down memory lane as she sang the songs millennials my age (I’m 28 years old) grew up with. She sangย “…Baby One More Time,” “Oops!… I Did It Again,” “Boys,” “Do Somethin’,” and so much more.
Of course, she also sang some of her newer hits, which were also well-received.
Some of them included “Slumber Party” and “Do You Wanna Come Over?” There was also a part when she played the Missy Elliot hits “Work It” and “Get Ur Freak On.” Everyone went wild!
But the best moments of the concert were towards the end. She closed the concert with a slow version of “Toxic,” which exploded into the dance version we all know. This was followed by “Stronger,” and people completely lost it when she sang “(You Drive Me) Crazy.” For her encore performance, she performed “Till the World Ends.” It was a fitting ending to a fantastic concert.
However, the concert didn’t end when Britney left the stage. The hangover is real because everyone started singing along toย “…Baby One More Time,” which was playing over the speakers. Our generation has been waiting for this moment since 1998. We’re hoping she’s going to perform in Manila one more time.
