Breaking Barriers with Ateneo Senior High School’s SOLE 3: Equinox

Ever wonder what happened to the many high school events now that we’re in the time of the pandemic? School fairs, concerts, and other live events have seemingly vanished due to our current circumstances, and they don’t seem to be coming back any time soon. However, the Ateneo Senior High School has somehow broken past these barriers and made the impossible possible, with the SOLE.

What is SOLE?

SOLE Poster

The Special Online Event (SOLE) of the Ateneo Senior High School (ASHS) is a series of events that are meant to bring the Senior High community together. It consists of programs meant for student participation, such as the ESportsfest ー a video game tournament spanning across four different games, and Beyond Infinity ー a podcast featuring past and current students from the ASHS, as well as guests from different schools and backgrounds.

Mission-Vision

At first, it may just seem like an amalgamation of games and videos, but SOLE means much more. As a committee, SOLE envisions a more connected Ateneo Senior High School. We aspire to sustain an online ASHS without any barriers to personal growth and development that the pandemic has built, all while upholding the ASHS’s culture and values. With AthC, we take that vision one step further as we set our sights on a sportsfest that persists even in our current setting, an ESportsfest. All while doing this, we continue in our endeavor to foster camaraderie among students and to build a sense of community in the ASHS as we pursue classes online.

The SOLE Events

Our SOLE lineup is composed of four main open events: the ESportsfest Finals, Beyond Infinity Episode 7, the SOLE ARG, and the Bluelapalooza.

ESportsfest Finals

This event is the grand culmination of a large-scale tournament testing the skills of PC and mobile gamers all across the ASHS! It includes crowd favorite games, namely, League of Legends, Valorant, Mobile Legends, and Call of Duty Mobile. The mobile games finals take place first, with Mobile Legends from 3:30-6:30 PM on April 21, and Call of Duty Mobile from 3:30-6:30 PM on April 22 . The PC gamers then battle it out the next day, on April 23, in the final matches of League of Legends from 3:30PM-6:30PM, and Valorant from 7:00PM-10:00PM. Find out the best of the best gamers of the ASHS in the thrilling, highly-anticipated ESportsfest Finals, available for everyone to witness LIVE via the ASHS SOLE Facebook Page!

With sign-ups open until April 24, Saturday, at 11:59PM, get a chance to win Grab Gift cards worth PhP 500. Read more about the SOLE ARG on the ASHS SOLE Facebook page here!

Bluelapalooza

Bluelapalooza is the annual concert of the Music Industry Organization (MIO) traditionally held during the Ateneo High School Fair. It features performances from the student-artists of the Ateneo. This academic year, 2020-2021, given the current situation, the MIO has been holding Bluelapalooza through YouTube livestreams in collaboration with SOLE. Catch them on the SOLE YouTube page on April 24, 4:00PM-6:00PM!

The Future of SOLE

While the future is still uncertain in this time of COVID-19, one thing’s for sure: the Ateneo Senior High School students will continue to break barriers in whatever situation they face. Even in the time of extreme hardships, our connectedness as a Senior High community will press on, and the Special Online Event is proof of that.
