Summer’s coming and who cannot feel the rising temperature? With the sun blazing more brightly in the sky and the air getting a bit more humid every passing day towards beach season, it’s hard to keep your body (and head) cool. Good thing there are a lot of ways to beat the prickling heat, like going for a swim in the nearest pool, downing refreshing fruity shakes at your favorite store, or enjoying a scoop of your favorite gelato. So on a particularly hot Tuesday, I decided to visit BONO Artisan Gelato at SM Aura to try their cool treats. And the timing was perfect.
BONO Artisan Gelato is a new discovery for me, but they have been making waves in the gelato industry since December 2012. Setting the cookie butter trend, they also have churned and created wonderfully inventive flavors, establishing its position as Manila’s top Gelateria. Using only the finest, freshest, in-season ingredients (no preservatives; everything is made from scratch), and only the slow-food movement technique (carefully perfecting batch after batch of delicious gelato), every scoop is rest assured in best quality. Chef Zarah Zaragoza-Manikan, Chief R&D of BONO Artisanal Gelato, showed us how they make their yummy gelato on the spot!
What makes BONO Artisan Gelato closer to my heart is the new milestone they have achieved for the Philippines: they competed for the Gelato World Tour last March 20-22 at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore to vie for the “World’s Best Gelato” title. BONO Artisanal Gelato’s Mango Ube Symphony flavor (a combination of smooth mango gelato with swirls of purple yam jam, accented with rhum-soaked dried mango strips) bested 40 entries from 50 countries to qualify as one of the Top 16 Asia Pacific finalists.
