‘Black Mirror’ creator and showrunner Charlie Brooker recently talked withย Radio Timesย and shared an update about his creative life. Fans may be disappointed to know that the next season for the dystopian anthology series is not currently on his list of priorities.
When asked byย Radio Timesย to give an update on Black Mirror’s 6th season, Brooker replied that another season filled with existential dread might not be what the world needs right now. Brooker explained that he wasn’t “sure if audiences could stomach another season at the moment.โ

“At the moment, I donโt know what stomach there would be for stories about societies falling apart, so Iโm not working away on one of those,” he continued.
However, he hasn’t merely been idle during this time of pandemic. “Iโve been busy, doing things. I donโt know what I can say about what Iโm doing and not doing,” he shares.
“Iโm sort of keen to revisit my comic skill set, so Iโve been writing scripts aimed at making myself laugh.”
But just because we won’t be getting a new season right now doesn’t mean we won’t get oneย ever.ย Speaking toย Digital Spyย last summer, Brooker called the future ofย Black Mirrorย “pretty flexible” saying: “I donโt think thereโs anything to stop us. We could do one-offs, we could do an ongoing story, we could do spin-offs.”
Black Mirrorย is a science-fiction anthology series that acts as a social commentary on technology and the way it shapes and manipulates our lives. Its 5th season premiered last June 2019. Annabel Jones serves as showrunner alongside Brooker.
