Bistro Ninety Eight: Gourmet Comfort Food

When in Manila, it’s always cool to find interesting and unusual dining spots that will make you come back for more. So after stumbling upon a curious hole-in-the-wall tucked away in Scout Lozano, Quezon City,  my friend Hervin Hernando and I were instantly beside ourselves with glee.

A bistro-cum-cafe locally owned and run by three chefs, Bistro Ninety Eight is a unique hangout for fellow gourmands who wish to feast on some of the most distinctive Western dishes to ever graze the Filipino palate. The young chefs–Joseph Sanvictores, Phoebe See and Darwin Cardenas–have been passionate about cooking for the longest time, and it was only in March 2012 that the three officially opened their cozy joint. It must surely be a dream come true for these long-time friends.

Bistro Ninety Eight‘s menu changes frequently, and they are always open to offering something outside the regular menu to accommodate their guests’ needs. They use fresh ingredients (they hardly stock up on perishables, really) and even cook the food on the spot to ensure quality and freshness. It’s good that they frequent the market often, too, since this is where they get their inspiration for their next menu.
