Bianca Gonzalez Has This to Say to People Making Fun of Morena Skin

Television host Bianca Gonzalez decided to air out her thoughts regarding people who continue to mock and make fun of people with dark skin.

On an Instagram post dated May 12, Bianca posted a photo of herself during her younger years and expressed pride in her being a “morena.”

Hindi ‘kawawa’ ang morena. Hindi dehado, hindi lugi, hindi pangit ang maitim kumpara sa maputi. Tama na ang harmful messaging na yan, please (Morenas are not ‘pitiful.’ They aren’t disadvantaged, they did not get the short end of the stick, they aren’t uglier compared to those with whiter skin. Let’s stop this harmful messaging, please),” she said in the caption of her post. “That would be my message to 17-year old me in this picture, and to all other brown-skinned girls (and boys!) who might be reading this.”

Bianca spoke more at length in the episode of her “Paano Ba ‘To: The Podcast” discussing the subject and urged fellow Filipinos to embrace the skin that they’re in no matter what other people may say.

“Please, let us stop this thinking that maitim is uglier than maputi, or that being dark-skinned is less than being fair-skinned. All skin tones are beautiful, really,” she said in the episode titled “Hindi ‘Kawawa’ ang Morena.”
