BEWARE: PNP Warns Public of Date-Rape Drug Rampant on The Street

11229299_916218675086056_7440659044543380430_nThe Philippine National Police (PNP) posted this short and simple infographic warning the public about a date-rape drug that is rampant on the streets today called GHB or Gamma- Hydroxybutyrate.

It reads the caption:

“Mag-ingat sa kumakalat na “Date-Rape Drugs” na inihahalo sa mga inumin ng mga kababaihan upang sila ay mawalan ng malay at pagsamantalahan. Narito ang mga kailangan nyong malaman ukol dito”

Rough translation:

“Beware of the widely spreading “Date-Rape Drugs” which they mix with the drink of women for them to hallucinate and lose consciousness. Then they will be raped. Here are the information you will need regarding this.”

What is a Date-Rape drug?

  • also referred to as a predator drug, is any drug that is an incapacitating agent which, when administered to another person, incapacitates the person and renders them vulnerable to a drug facilitated sexual assault(DFSA), including rape. The most common types of DFSA are those in which a victim consumes a recreational drug such as alcohol administered surreptitiously. The most common form of DFSA is alcohol-related,with the victim in most cases consuming the alcohol voluntarily. Other date rape drugs include rohypnol, ketamine and gamma-hydroxybutyrate(GHB). 

What is GHB or Gamma Hydroxybutyrate?

  • GHB has been used in a medical setting as a general anesthetic, to treat conditions such as insomnia, clinical depression, narcolepsy, and alcoholism, and to improve athletic performance
  • It is also used as a date-rape drug as it may give hallucinations, amnesia, high sex drive and can induce coma.
