The Dance Program of DLS-CSB School of Design and Arts features “MONO,” produced and directed by Bianca Zaragoza, a contemporary dance thesis production that zooms in on the thin line between conformity and individuality. This is to be staged on March 15, 7 pm and March 16, 1 pm and 7 pm at the 6/F Black Box SDA Campus.

Bianca Zaragoza started her dance training in CCP Dance School at the age of 8. In 2011, she became a scholar for the CCP Dance School and had the opportunity to train in classical ballet and modern dance under renowned dancers and teachers. She has participated in several productions such as Tchaikovsky’s Classical Treasures, Coppelia, The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, etc. Aside from dancing, she also participated as a backstage crew in various dance productions.

Bianca is currently taking Bachelor of Performing Arts Major in Dance in De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde as a full scholar.

“MONO” focuses on the innate human need to fit in. It highlights how the strive for social acceptance hinders most of us from weaving our own perspectives and from showing our distinctive qualities to favor societal ideals. The director’s contemplation toward societal expectations was exemplified through dance movements to create a statement on how such standards impedes us, at some point, from pursuing what we want and expressing who we really are. The production aims to acknowledge one’s uniqueness and chance to create a mark despite the existing conformity around us.
