Get ready to speed into a whole new level of excitement with Sonic the Hedgehog 3! In this exclusive interview, Ben Schwartz, who voices Sonic, gives us some tantalizing hints about what we can expect from this epic adventure.
Here’s What You Can Expect From Sonic the Hedgehog 3
An Avengers-Like Team
Team Sonic consists of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. According to Ben, “Sonic brings the speed and attitude, Tails brings the brains and flight, and Knuckles brings the brawn. They are best friends and support each other, which is a big thing. And they use their unique abilities to combine into one big force of kicking butt. A bit like the Avengers, but maybe more colorful.”

When asked who each character would be in the Avengers, Ben quips, “Knuckles would be Hulk. Tails would be Iron Man because he’s got the know-how and inventing skills of Tony Stark. And because Sonic is so young and has such a great attitude, he’d be Spider-Man.” Perfect comparisons, I’d say!
Deadly New Threats
This time around, Team Sonic is up against the ultimate lifeform: Shadow the Hedgehog, voiced by none other than Keanu Reeves. “He’s a hero of mine,” Ben raves, adding that “Shadow is a threat to everybody. He is more powerful than any other character Sonic has ever faced.” By the way, we also get two Dr. Robotniks, Ivo and Gerald in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 – both played by Jim Carrey, of course.

Prison Island
The name in itself already sounds amazing – but Ben points out that it also looks amazing. In Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Prison Island is a high-security prison that houses the strongest lifeforms and biggest threats to the world, including Shadow who breaks out after 50 years.
More CG Characters
While we already loved the CG that we’ve gotten from the previous movies, Ben promises the CG characters in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be even better. “With this storyline, we’re giving the fans what they want,” Ben says. “Fans really want to see Shadow and Sonic go at it. We’re giving them that plus twice the amount of Jim Carrey.” He adds, “Also, the CG work has been notched up even more because the action sequences are so vast that they demanded it. This is Sonic on a scale you have never seen.” We. Are. So. Excited.

New Lessons to Learn
Now on its third installment, we can also obviously look forward to a whole storyline with whole new lessons. While the first movie was about finding family and the second movie was about finding friends, Ben shares that this movie is about Sonic learning how to be a leader without overtaking everyone and thinking he can do everything.
“It’s about Sonic learning how to share the load and lean on people when he needs help, which is a big thing for kids to learn, and also for adults to learn,” Ben rightfully points out. “All these different stages from these movies, I think, can really connect with people at different times in their lives.” So make sure to watch it with the whole family!
