More than a year has passed since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, yet students are still technologically challenged which is evident in the lack of electronic devices and unreliability of internet connection. While this problem continues to persist, students have also petitioned to push back the sem, call for academic freeze, among many others. Although limited face-to-face classes have been approved in areas under ‘Alert Level 2’, guidelines for this mandate are still indeterminate. With all these issues concerning the education of students, they incessantly face struggles and are unable to keep up. Quoting one of the student beneficiaries: “kahit pinadapa ng pandemyang ito ang aming mga kabuhayan, pinipilit parin naming sumabay dahil naniniwala kami na ang edukasyon ang susi sa pagkakaroon ng magandang bukas ”. At the very least, we can help ease the burden of these students by first providing them with necessary materials for online learning.
Hence, the UP Pre-Medical Society of UP Diliman has decided to re-launch SULONG 2.0 – a donation drive that aims to reach out to students in need. Last year, they were able to provide gadgets to 64 beneficiaries with your help. Now, they are once again asking for your support as they extend their help to more students in dire need of electronic devices and a proper internet connection. Each student will receive a SULONG 2.0 package containing one device (either a laptop or a tablet with a wireless keyboard), a sim card, and prepaid mobile data.
They are currently accepting cash or in-kind donations for laptop and tablet devices. Cash donations will be used to purchase SULONG 2.0 packages for the beneficiaries. In-kind donations (new, spare, or even pre-loved devices and equipment) will be inspected by their partner, Builds by PJ, to ensure the quality and usability of gadgets before turning them over to the student beneficiaries.
As part of the organization’s gratitude for the generous donations, donors will also get the chance to be part of their Bingo raffle and get to win a Php 3000 cash prize! Just follow the instructions in the post below.
