Barefoot’s Yapak Yakap 2019: Bask and Bloom

Barefoot Philippines is a youth-led organization in the Ateneo de Manila University that advocates for children’s rights. Founded in 2015, Barefoot serves as an official fundraising arm of UNICEF Philippines. Like UNICEF, Barefoot Philippines hopes for every child to live a dignified life, wherever they may be.

Barefoot aims to provide sustainable and contextualized assistance — both formative and structural — for children in rural communities. It is currently partnering with an Ayta community in Katutubo Village, Pampanga. The organization conducts monthly educational modules for the children, and collaborates with the community in creating structures, such as water pumps, that aim to benefit them in the long-run.

Barefoot has a number of fundraising initiatives in order to materialize these long-term goals. This April, it is staging its annual color run: Yapak Yakap!

This year, Yapak Yakap’s theme is Bask and Bloom, which aims to celebrate children’s rights using differently-colored flowers to represent them — such as yellow for the right to be heard, orange for the right to safety, and pink for the right to be loved. Aside from raising awareness for Barefoot’s advocacy, 100% of the event’s proceeds will go towards benefitting their partner community.

Yapak Yakap will be on April 7, 2019 (Sunday), from 7AM-10AM, at the Ateneo de Manila University campus grounds. This running event offers distances of 1 km, 3 km, and 5 km.
