Barefoot Fun Run: Yapak Yakap

Barefoot Philippines is an emerging organization from the Ateneo de Manila University that was founded back in 2015. It is a student-led initiative that is in support of UNICEF Philippines. Like UNICEF, Barefoot has similar objectives: to protect and uphold children’s rights.

The organization aims to provide sustainable, contextualized assistance — both structural & formative — for children in rural communities. Formative assistance includes monthly community engagements where members conduct educational modules for the kids in the area, while structural assistance includes providing infrastructures that are needed in the community.

Barefoot has a number of fundraising initiatives in order to materialize its long-term goals. This year, Barefoot started a new project that caters to both the Atenean community and the public: Yapak Yakap!

Yapak Yakap is a color run that celebrates all kinds of love. It’s a running event that offers the participants to choose from distances of 1.5 km, 3 km, and 5 km. The event will be held on February 11, 2018 at the Ateneo de Manila University Campus.

In the spirit of Valentine’s, YapakYakap recognizes how people give and receive love in different ways – whether with family, friends, or even self-love. The event aims to bring together the community for a good cause and to raise awareness for Barefoot’s advocacy. All of the proceeds from YapakYakap will be donated to Barefoot’s partner communities.
