Bantay Boto presents the Senatorial Election Watch 2019

With the great expectation to the youth’s role as frontrunners for political change, it is necessary to provide them with an avenue for evaluating their choices for the upcoming May elections.

To cultivate responsible and informed voting practices among the Filipino youth, Bantay Boto 2019 spearheads SURI and SULONG in the month of February. SULONG will gather around 500 student leaders to participate in a whole-day conference and senatorial forum on February 23, Saturday, at the International Center for Public Administration (ICPA), UP NCPAG. With series of voters’ education comes SURI, a mock senatorial election involving students of UP Diliman on February 28, Thursday.

Bantay Boto 2019 is an alliance of youth organizations and councils in UP Diliman, Philippine Normal University, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, and Polytechnic University of the Philippines that are united by a common passion in service to their University and the country.

 

SULONG, with the theme “Tayo Naman, Tao Naman”, gathers the following eight senatorial aspirants that shall express their opinions and platforms regarding notable social issues:

Rep. Gary Alejano, Liberal Party

Mr. Rafael Alunan, Bagumbayan-VNP Party

Atty. Neri Colmenares, Makabayan Party

Atty. Chel Diokno, Liberal Party

Mr. Elmer Francisco, Federalista Party

Ms. Samira Gutoc, Liberal Party

Atty. Pilo Hilbay, Aksyon Demokratiko Party

Atty. Francis Tolentino, PDP Laban

Dr. Willie Ong, Lakas CMD Party

 

Through a series of three rounds, candidates shall voice out their stand by answering questions about relevant political matters. This includes an opportunity to answer questions crowdsourced from the participants.

Apart from the senatorial forum, SULONG is a youth convention that aims to raise awareness and strengthen electoral education through a plenary session that shall discuss Philippine elections and the role that the youth plays on it.
