Ballet Philippines Presents Rama, Hari

Ballet Philippines, known for bringing the art of discipline in dancing closer to the hearts of Filipinos, continues its legacy as it offers us one of the world’s greatest epics. Based on the Indian epic Ramayana, Rama, Hari is definitely something to look forward to this November when in Manila!

With the timeless love story of Rama and Sita and a powerhouse cast, the ballet musical Rama, Hari reminds us of our Asian values and talent in the arts that is characteristic to Filipinos. Rama, Hari also celebrates the beauty of Filipino music with songs such as Tagistis ng Ulan, Iisa ang Tibok, and Awit ng Pagsinta.

You would know it’s worth every penny once you hear the names behind this ballet musical! Rama, Hari is choreographed by Ballet Philippines’ founder Alice Reyes while the music lies in the hands of no other than the maestro, Ryan Cayabyab! Wide-eyed? Wait, there’s more! The libretto was written by National Artist for Literature Bienvenido Lumbera and it was National Artist for Theater Design Salvador Bernal who did the set and costume design!

Ballet Philippines first staged Rama, Hari in 1980 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines with Basil Valdez and Kuh Ledesma as the voices behind Rama and Sita. The return of Rama, Hari on stage will bring together the talented duo Christian Bautista and Karylle. Christian and Karylle said they are both honored to play the lead roles of this ballet musical because the language, music, and story are equally beautiful. Ballet Philippines’ Artistic Director Paul Alexander Morales is also confident that Rama, Hari would meet expectations because it is a wonderful collaboration of the finest names in the industry.
