Are you a fan of exhibits and want to revisit your childhood memories? Don’t worry, because we got you!
After four years of closure, the Museum of a History of Ideas in University of the Philippines Manila (UPM-MHI)reopened its doors to the public last December 2024. With this, art students—especially Philippine Arts students—finally have a space to showcase their craft and creativity.
As part of their final requirement for Philippine Arts 164: Curatorship and Collection Management, they will be curating Balik-Balik: Sari-Saring Alaala, a two-day art exhibit that explores Filipino childhood nostalgia through everyday life—play, food, fashion, and familiar objects. This is the first student-led art exhibition in UP Manila after the pandemic.
The exhibition aims to evoke both personal and collective memories through carefully curated items, offering visitors an opportunity to reflect on the past and connect with shared cultural experiences. By focusing on the theme of nostalgia, the exhibit seeks to foster a deeper understanding of how memories shape our identity and collective history.
The exhibit will take place from May 15 to May 16, 2025, at UPM-MHI. The entrance fee will be 30 pesos, which grants ALL ACCESS to the exhibit and the museum’s entire collection. This exhibit is open to the public.
Aside from the exhibit itself, there will also be interactive zones that enable visitors to play their favorite childhood games. The exhibition seeks to help us reminisce and revisit our childhood—especially during these challenging times in our lives.
Balik-Balik: Sari-Saring Alaala is not just a simple class project; it is a space that offers comfort and vulnerability to all of us. As we approach adulthood, a big part of who we are is our childhood. It’s okay to reminisce and be a child again in our own world.
So what are you waiting for? Let’s take a look back at our collective memory. See you at UPM-MHI!
