BAGUIO CITY – September 18, 2020: As local establishments prepare to welcome tourists back once again, the Baguio City government is taking crucial steps to ensure the safety of both guests and residents—including using robots to disinfect some critical areas.
In a bid to gradually open the city’s economy after nearly six months in quarantine, the country’s summer capital will be opening its borders to neighboring cities Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur, and Ilocos Norte beginning September 22, 2020.
Robotic Activations, a robotics provider is deploying a Danish industrial-grade autonomous UV-C disinfection robot called the Keno UV-C.
It will be used to thoroughly sanitize City Hall, Baguio Teachers’ Camp, Sto. Niño Hospital, and the newly opened centralized triage area at the Baguio Convention Center (BCC), where tourists, returning residents, and other visitors of the city will be examined upon entry.
“This virus moves fast, and so should technology. We must embrace new and proven technology whenever we can to help fight COVID-19,” said Mayor Benjamin Magalong, who is often lauded for his aggressive and efficient management of COVID-19 in the city.
Robotic Activations, who has provided the service for free, has likewise expressed their commitment to contributing their technology and expertise to help the country fight the pandemic.
