Baguio City Confirms First COVID-19 Case

The Department of Health (DOH) announced this Monday Baguio City’s first confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The patient is a 61-year-old woman with travel history to Italy.

DOH – Cordillera’s Officer-in-Charge Amelita Pangilinan revealed the news with the assurance that contact-tracing is ongoing, with the patient’s family being very cooperative. She also shared that the patient is currently in stable condition.

“Contact trace already done even before the result came in, all the contacts were already advised on what to do,” City Health Services Office Medical Officer IV Donnabel Tubera-Panes guaranteed. “And ang pagkiusap po namin [We are asking] with the City Government Unit let’s not underestimate the virus…Everybody is in the war zone, everybody is equipped, team bahay stay home.”

Pangilinan stated that as of March 23, there are 143 Persons Under Investigation (PUIs) in the Cordillera region.

Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center Medical Chief II Dr. Ricardo B. Ruñez has requested the community to adhere to the quarantine measures.
