Avengers: Infinity War opened worldwide last week, April 26. At opening night, it took in $39 million at US and Canadian box offices. It is the biggest opening for a Marvel Studios film and the fourth-highest of all time, according to distributor Walt Disney.

Analysts say that the movie is expected to come close to or even break the weekend record set in 2015 by Star Wars: The Force Awakens by Sunday.

Force Awakens grossed $248 million in its first weekend.

Avengers: Infinity War had over 20 superheroes from Marvel’s ever-expanding cinematic universe, including Iron Man, Captain America, The Hulk, Black Widow, Spider-Man, Black Panther and the Guardians of the Galaxy.

The movies starred Robert Downey Jr., Benedict Cumberbatch, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans and Josh Brolin, to name but a few.

Another Avengers movie is in post-production and due for release in May 2019.
