Artemis Fowl Movie

Bookworms, we have great news for you: Artemis Fowl, the series of novels written by Eoin Colfer, will be turned into a live-action movie!

The news was first announced in 2013 when Walt Disney Pictures said it was adapting the first two novels. Two years later, Kenneth Branagh was hired to direct and produce the film. Now, the latest news is the cast has been announced.

In the role of Fowl will be Ferdia Shaw, who was chosen out of 1,200 candidates who auditioned. He will be joined by Josh Gad as the kleptomaniac dwarf Mulch Diggums, Judi Dench as the leader of the fairy police force Commander Root, Lara McDonnell as the elf Captain Holly Short, and Nonso Anonzie as Fowl’s bodyguard Butler.

Artemis Fowl follows the adventures of the titular character, a teenage genius who battles with a race of fairies who may be behind his father’s disappearance. The series includes eight novels published between 2001 and 2012, which was received well by critics. The New York Times describes the series as Die Hard with fairies, and said that “Colfer has done enormously, explosively well.”

The film Artemis Fowl is set to premiere on August 9, 2019.
