Art Fair Philippines 2020: Open Studios and Talks Schedule

Ingrained in the mission of Art Fair Philippines is the expansion of audiences for art. To this end, ​the fair provides fair visitors opportunities to deepen their exposure even more to various topics that will enhance art appreciation.

Art Fair Philippines 2020, slated for 21-23 February at The Link carpark in Makati City, will introduce a new section called ArtFairPH/Open Studios. This section complements ArtFairPH/Talks to expand the learning opportunities at the fair.

ArtFairPH/Open Studios

ArtFairPH/Open Studios will present a series of workshops and demos with respected practitioners in the fields of arts and culture. 

There will be a two-day photography workshop with Paco Guerrero, open to participants who have an intermediate level knowledge of photography. The first part of the workshop will be dedicated to a live photography shoot and practical Portrait Lighting. The second part will revolve around a panel discussion on the participants’ work with guest lectures.

ArtFairPH/Open Studios will also present workshops on watercolor with multi-media artist Claude Tayag, lighting techniques for photographers with Neal Oshima and Mark Nicdao, working with wood with one of the finest woodworkers in the world Benji Reyes. 

There will also be a workshop on making your own wet and dry cyanotype with Alexis Oshima and Angela Silva, and a Sculptural Planter-Making workshop with Rita Gudiño of Tahanan Pottery. The Association of Pinoyprintmakers will also hold a workshop on the techniques of relief printing and for developing a greater appreciation for the art of printmaking. 

Sculptor and YouTuber Carlos Quevedo (Morisato 54) will also conduct a lecture demo on his creative process of 21st Century Automata.

ArtFairPH/Talks

ArtFairPH/Talks will feature a panel on award-winning artist Onib Olmedo, who is best known for his expressionistic figurative paintings and for his contribution in founding the Filipino Expressionist movement, and a discussion on the primacy of the idea and of process in Sol LeWitt’s art by guest curator Carina Evangelista. 

Italian ambassador and known art aficionado Giorgio Guglielmino will also talk about his book The Originals, in which he enumerates 30 various artists that make a difference in the art scene.

Zhuang Wubin, writer, curator, artist, and editorial board member of Trans-Asia Photography Review, will also join Art Fair Philippines to talk about the art of photography in Southeast Asia. 

Artists and art organizers from Cebu, Negros, Iloilo, and Capiz will have a panel discussion that focuses on the vibrant art communities in Visayas and the inter-island connections and collaborations, most evident in, but not limited to Viva Excon, the bi-annual Visayan Visual Arts exhibition and conference.
