Argonauta and Mandala Spa, Boracay- Perfect for Peace Seekers

Argonauta’s owner, a German who is Filipino at heart, loves showcasing anything Filipino.  Her hotel serves Filipino food to offer an authentic Boracay experience especially to her foreign guests.  As a show of support and trust to the country, she made sure all the construction materials used to build her hotel are locally produced and made.   An admirable way to show her love to a country that is now her home.

Imagine yourself looking at the sunset partially covered with lush leaves superimposed by the many flora that still flourish on this side of the hill, while sipping a cup of organic mint tea sweetened with honey, munching a couple of butter coolies while lying on a lounge chair.   Yes.  I think that is the good life.

Another place which should be visited by anyone who wishes for total relaxation is Mandala Spa.  Named after a very old circular symbol that represents wholeness and the elements of the universe in Hindu and Buddhist symbolism.  This place is dedicated to help people reconnect with their own body and spirit, going back to the bare essentials in life.   Mandala Spa is about going back to the basics of life.  Owned by one of the first tourists who fell in love with the island and never left, and decided to live there.

Going inside the compound felt so earthy with gardens so lush, bordering on “wild.”   At the lobby, you can see a very nice, rustic but elegant gazebo.

We were welcomed by one of the staff with a very serene expression and warm smile on her face.   Everything about Mandala, and the whole experience was serene.  Communing with nature and meditation is very easy, the place almost induces them.

Mandala Spa is unlike any of the other spas in the island, and possibly in the country.  They have skillful and professionally-trained therapists and specialists  in their employ, and compounded by the special treatment packages they formulated, you will certainly have the best “me time.

”  What the therapists do is to facilitate your reconciling with your inner self while undergoing treatments.  They have detox treatment packages, water treatment packages, and spa treatment packages that target specific problems and contribute to restoring your physical and mental well- being.

The owner, Mr. Deiter Schrottmann informs me that he requires his employees to meditate and do yoga everyday.  That is how serious he is in his advocacy to  connect with yourself and listen to your body.   In doing this, he believes that many issues regarding physical well being will be resolved, and achieve emotional and mental wellness as well.

I must say, I am not a fan of massages, they usually leave me feeling tireder than when I started out.  My muscles end up getting sorer and although I feel sleepy, I also feel heavy, so needless to say, I was a bit skeptical when I was invited to try their Manadala Signature treatment.

The minute my therapist talked to me in a very calming voice explaining to me what was going to happen, I knew this is a one of a kind experience.  When I entered the hut where the treatment was going to take place, I knew it was going to be a lot more pleasant than I expected.  The serenity of the place, the calm sounds mimicking nature, and the gentle teasing of therapeutic scents put me in a very relaxing mood.   Half of my stress was at once stripped away.

The therapist talked in a very soft voice, and with the soft massage, sweet oil on my skin, I felt like I was in a very happy dream.  I became aware of my breathing, how each of my muscle feels with the light pressure.  I didn’t know facial muscles can be tense, too!  The whole hour was pleasant, and dreamy.  I almost fell asleep as if in a trance.

The experience was not only extremely pleasant, it was healing, almost at ethereal levels.  I have never had an experience like this before, nor I think I will.  If you go to Boracay in search of peace and physical and mental restoration, then Mandala spa might be the best place to go.  Don’t miss this the next time you fly to Boracay.
