Bugtong, or riddles in English, used to be one of my favorite past times. There was just something about it that made it so appealing. Perhaps it’s the fact that it forces you to heighten your senses—like looking back and thinking what the answer could be—because the funny thing about riddles is that they’re mostly just very ordinary things that surround us. Parts of the body, nature, objects, or whatever else.

Riddles cleverly shroud these simple things with creative words, and sometimes, they can be really challenging. But we can all agree, that moment you figure a riddle out is so satisfying. In the same way that not being able to figure it out is pure pain and torture! (Especially when you never find out the answer!)
It’s unfortunate that the bugtong is not that common now with these days’ generation, but before we start blaming technology and social media for that, check out this Filipino-made app actually aims to bring the fun of bugtong back into Pinoy’s lives.
