Animal Crossing: New Horizon – Top Tips for Beginners

Playing ‘Animal Crossing: New Horizon’ during the enhanced community quarantine? Yeah. Me, too. If this is the case, then you might want to read these top tips to help you make the most of your current life in the game – because, let’s face it: you’ll probably be spending the next two or so weeks playing it until real life settles back in.

Animal Crossing: New Horizon – Top Tips for Beginners

Settle your debts as quickly as possible.

Even in real life, utang is bad. In the game, however, you don’t really have much of a choice. After all, you need a roof over your head, right? You’ll be in debt from Day One in the game, but don’t put off paying it off. The quicker you settle your debt, the more upgrades you can give your home to get extra storage for all of your stuff. And trust me: you’ll need it.

Creep up on bugs.

Creeping up on fish is pretty easy. You’ve probably noticed that if you run near the area where a fish is, it’ll dive away. What you might not have noticed yet is that you can creep up on bugs, too. Instead of running towards one and swinging your net at it, creep forward by holding the A button with your net in hand. This is especially important when catching bugs like tarantulas that will bite you if you run towards them. Creep up on them instead, pause when they look defensive, and then creep closer once they’re calmer. This will help you catch the bug you’re after before it gets to bite you.

Do not break rocks.

Hitting a rock with your axe can give you useful resources that are hard to find, like stone, iron, and clay. This might get you to think that breaking a rock will give you all of the resources at once. This isn’t the case, though. If you break a rock, you will only get one resource and then you’re going to have to wait for another rock to pop up on your island… and this could take DAYS. Do NOT break rocks.

Eat your fruits.

If you eat some fruit, a counter will appear on the upper left corner of your screen to show you how much fruit you’ve eaten. Eating fruit will enable you to do special actions, like breaking stones or digging up trees. The latter can help make groves easy to pick. Plus, when you visit another island, you’ll be able to transplant new trees without waiting for them to regrow.

Plant trees.

If you want to make quick money, plant some fruit to grow fruit trees. The first fruit you find on your island (they were pears for me) will bring you 100, while other fruits will bring you 500. Another thing you can do? Plant MONEY TREES. That’s right. You might have seen golden beams shining from the ground somewhere. If you dig them up, you’ll get money bags that you can pocket for 1000 or so. Instead of pocketing the money bag, though, you can also plant the bag somewhere to grow a money tree. These money trees will then grow into trees that – ta-daaaaa! – drop money bags instead of fruit, helping you make more money. (You’re welcome.)

Use a stone axe instead of an iron axe.

If you want to get a steady fill of resources, then avoid using the Iron Axe; it can cut down trees. Instead, always use a Stone Axe, so you can keep getting different types of wood for crafting without chopping down any trees.
