Andy Serkis, Who Voiced Gollum in “The Lord of the Rings,” Will Give a Live Reading of “The Hobbit”

Andy Serkis Gollum

One of the most iconic characters in The Lord of the Rings cinematic universe is Gollum, a Stoor Hobbit who was corrupted by the One Ring. He is known for his line “my precious,” which has become an iconic quote. If you love Gollum, you have Andy Serkis to thank, as he played the character in the original trilogy and The Hobbit trilogy.

Now, Serkis is set to return to Middle Earth as he’s going to do a live-reading of The Hobbit to raise funds for charity.

According to the actor, “so many of us are struggling in isolation during the lockdown. While times are tough, I want to take you on one of the greatest fantasy adventures ever written, a 12-hour armchair marathon across Middle-earth, while raising money for two amazing charities which are doing extraordinary work right now to help those most in need.”

The money that will be raised will be donated to NHS Charities Together, which supports the National Health Service in the United Kingdom, and Best Beginnings, which aims to “give every child in the UK the best start in life.”

Serkis will be posting the link to the live-reading on the GoFundMe page, where patrons can donate any amount they want.
