Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire joining ‘Spider-Man 3’ NOT true

Going viral a few weeks ago is the rumor that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire are joining Tom Holland in another installment of Spider-Man. However, a representative from Sony said to Entertainment Tonight Canada via a statement that “those rumored castings are not confirmed.”

Still, this is not an outright denial about the possible participation of the two former Spideys.

Maguire was Peter Parker/Spider-Man in trilogy that came out between 2002 and 2007. Meanwhile, Garfield played the lead role in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man and its 2014 sequel. After that, Holland took over the role and it was him who was introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: Civil War.

The rumors about Maguire and Garfield came to light when Jamie Foxx was chosen to play Electro in the upcoming 2021 Spider-Man film. Foxx previously played the same role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which led to speculations that previous adaptations are being introduced through the “multiverse.”

Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, and Jacob Batalon are confirmed to join Holland and will reprise their roles from previous installments. Benedict Cumberbatch will appear as Doctor Strange. The movie is scheduled to be released in December 17, 2021.
