‘Alita: Battle Angel’ sequel gets huge online push from fans on Twitter

Apparently, Alita: Battle Angel is one of the frontrunners when it comes to the most beloved movies of 2019. The movie got about $85 million at the US box office and about $400 million worldwide. The movie was released in February 2019.

However, even if it earned that much, it required upwards of $200 million after marketing. Therefore, there are lots of hesitation when it comes to creating a sequel. Now, fans spoke their mind through social media. Even one of the producers on the first film is encouraging them to speak out.

Alita: Battle Angel was released recently on HBO, which is an added boost for people to demand a sequel. The push trends on Twitter with the hashtag #AlitaSequel.

Fans shared photos, memes, and suggestions for future follow-ups and all in all, there were more than 20,000 tweets about the subject. Some fans even started a crowdfunding campaign a few weeks ago.

Here are some of them.

Alita: Battle Angel came from the 1990 manga called Battle Angel Alita. It is about a cyborg who must discover her past and fully realize what she’s capable of to protect the ones she loves.

The epic sci-fi film was produced by 20th Century Fox, which is now 20th Century Studios and owned by Disney. The franchise carries a hefty price tag due to the heavy use of CGI, especially with the lead character.

As of the moment, Disney already has a lot of profitable franchises such as Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar. The company might be able to afford to take a risk on an Alita: Battle Angel sequel then, but for $200 million? Probably not.
