Albay is this year’s sports tourism capital!

Host to four major sporting events the Philippines this 2016, the province of Albay can be considered this year’s sporting capital!

According to reports, Albay will host four major sporting events: the Albay Xterra Off-Road Triathlon and Le Tour de Filipinas in February, and the 2016 Palarong Pambansa and Mayon 360° Ultra Marathon in April.

Located in the Bicol region, Albay is known for its many tourist spots and is one of the major tourist destinations the Philippines.

It’s the second time Albay will host the Albay Xterra Off-road Triathlon, which will start tomorrow; the event is expected to have at least 200 local and international participants from countries like Japan, New Zealand, US, and Vietnam says reports.

The last leg of the prestigious Le Tour de Filipina will also be held in Albay, which would be a race around the Mayon Volcano starting from Legazpi City. 15 international and national teams are expected to take part in the event which starts on February 18.

On April 10, the Palarong Pambansa — the biggest multi-sporting event in the Philippines — will be held in Albay. According to reports at least 15,000 athletes and officials from the country’s 17 regions are expected to join the event.

And as part of Albay’s bid to increase tourism in the region, the 21 events of the national games will be scattered around the province to urge participants and visitors to explore Albay’s best tourism destinations.

On the same note, Albay will also host the Smart Mayon 360° Albay Ultramarathon 2016 on April 9.

The Marathon run will be held at the base of Mayon Volcano, with a distance of 80km and passing at least three cities and five towns.
