2021 marks the Philippines Church’s 500th year since the Catholic faith was introduced to us by the Spaniards in the year 1521. In response to the signs of the times and in order to prepare for the celebration, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) announced a 9-year era of New Evangelization.
Each year in these 9 years, the CBCP aims to highlight a pastoral priority that the Church will focus on and celebrate.
In response to the call to New Evangelization, The Live Christ, Share Christ (LCSC) has been actively doing mission that intends to mainstream Catholic lay evangelization. In these difficult times, people are looking for answers and empowerment. Thus, LCSC invites you to take part in this year’s New Evangelization Conference 2020. The Conference will take on the Church’s theme focusing on “The Word of God” as its core message.
The pandemic of COVID-19 will not stop us from our mission to evangelize and so this year’s NEC, entitled ALAB will be streamed online. It is a six (6)-day Virtual Conference that will happen on May 25 to 30, 2020.
For this year’s event, we used the BLUE FLAME to signify ALAB. A blue flame indicates safe and efficient combustion, meaning that the gas is being burned efficiently and not being wasted.
Blue flames are hotter and indicate complete combustion.
Connecting this to the NEC, we are to be fired up completely and totally by the Holy Spirit as we engage the world doing the work of new evangelization. Fired up with Faith, with Hope, with Love/ Charity and with a Burning Zeal for souls, we are to set the world on fire for Jesus. As we give our all and allow ourselves to be consumed by the Holy Spirit, nothing in our lives will be ever wasted.
And so we have prepared so much for the online attendees of this six (6)-day conference— it will be full of inspirational talks, vibrant worship and prayer sessions, enriching workshops, and life-giving testimonies, to empower lay people to take part in the Church’s missionary work and the celebration of the anticipated Holy Eucharist for Pentecost.
If we have one goal for the attendees of this year’s NEC, it is for the hearts of Filipino Catholics to be fired up by the Holy Spirit through a powerful encounter with the living Word of God. As we are fired up, we can be sent out into the world in the spirit of new evangelization.
As Filipino Catholics called to be Missionary Disciples of today, we are to be fired up with FAITH, with HOPE, with LOVE and with a BURNING ZEAL FOR SOULS. .
