Aiko Melendez Wins Best Actress In London World Cinema Filmfest

Another great news about Philippine film getting recognized overseas!

Just after Kidlat Tahimik’s win at the Berlin International Film Festival, and Lav Diaz’s “Norte” getting recognized at the Independent Spirit Awards in February, comes another victory for local film.

Actress Aiko Melendez just bagged the award for Best Lead Actress in a Foreign Language Film for Louie Ignacio’s “Asintado” at the  7th International Filmmaker Festival of World Cinema in London, according to the Philippine Star. However, the actress was not there to receive the award, so Ignacio and the producer, Ferdinand Lapuz accepted the trophy on her behalf, at the gala night last February 27.

Aiko plays the mother of a young man in Asintado, who take on a drug courier job that takes a turn for the worse.

Congratulations to Aiko and to the director and team behind “Asintado!”
