After Growing Up Insecure With Her Body, Here’s How Nadine Lustre Learned to Love Herself

Undeniably, Nadine Lustre is among those who Filipinos admire the most when it comes to beauty, brains, and confidence. At 26-years-old, she’s unafraid to speak her truth and stand up for herself when others push her down.

However, like every one of us, Nadine wasn’t immediately as self-assured growing up. She, too, had to strive to be comfortable with herself—what we could only imagine was a burdensome task considering that she had entered the local entertainment scene at a young age.

“To be honest I struggled with [my confidence] for so long. Growing up, I was really insecure about a lot of things with my body, with myself,” Nadine shared in an exclusive interview with When In Manila during a press conference for the relaunch of Century Tuna Superbods 2020. “I had this thing before when I would always be too hard on myself, so if there are things that I couldn’t do or couldn’t achieve, parang lagi kong dinodown yung sarili ko.”

However, she soon realized the importance of being much kinder to oneself.

“Eventually, I learned how to accept everything,” she said. “I learned to be best friends with myself.”

She then gave this piece of advice for all those who are struggling with their own self-confidence and self-image: “You should know how to be best friends with yourself kasi at the end of the day yung sarili mo lang yung kakampi mo.”

She added, “Nag-iisa ka lang eh, wala nang ibang katulad mo. So you just have to accept all these flaws and love yourself for who you really are. Love the skin that you’re in. You know, wala ka nang katulad eh … and that’s a really beautiful thing.”
