Ed Sheeran is finally coming back after a long hiatus from making music!
Last Friday, June 11, the “Shape of You” hitmaker revealed that he is officially ending his nearly two-year break from the music scene and releasing his new single, titled “Bad Habits,” very soon, which is his first solo single in four years.
“The moment you realise your first solo single in 4 years is coming out in a few weeks,” he said in a post of himself looking visibly nervous.
He then shared a number of photos from what seems to be his music video for the new song. The behind-the-scenes shots showed him wearing fangs, black nail polish, and sparkly red eyeshadow.
“I’ve been working away in the studio over recent months and I can’t wait for you to hear ‘Bad Habits,'” Sheeran said in a statement. “I always aim to push myself and my music in new directions and hopefully you’ll hear that on the new single. Feels great to be back!”
“Bad Habits” will be released on June 25, 2021.
Ed first announced his “bittersweet” break from music to a concert audience in England last August 2019 before making it Instagram official in December of the same year.
“Hello all. Gonna go on another break again,” he had written at the time. “The Divide era and tour changed my life in so many ways, but now it’s all over it’s time to go out and see some more of the world.”
“I’ve been a bit non stop since 2017 so I’m just gonna take a breather to travel, write, and read. I’ll be off social media until it’s time to come back,” he added.
In December 2020, he surprised fans when he released a stand-alone song “Afterglow” which was a melodic acoustic ballad for the holidays. He said that it wasn’t going to be the first single on his upcoming album, though.
