ABS-CBN Withdraws Shirt for Pope’s Visit After CBCP Slammed It As “Misleading”

ABS-CBN immediately pulled out a commemorative shirt that they have been selling after the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) called it out as misleading and erroneous, as reported on various news outlets. The shirt is sold in preparation of the pope’s visit in the country.

The said commemorative shirt bears the words, “No race. No religion. I embrace diversity.”

According to CBCP President and Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas, “while the words in the shirt attempt to convey the openness of the Holy Father, the phrases ‘No race. No religion’ are definitely misleading and quite frankly erroneous.”

Archbishop Villegas encouraged Catholics to steer clear of merchandises with misleading statements that are sold as commemorative items for the pope’s visit.

Although anyone can create and sell commemorative items for the pope’s visit in the Philippines since this reflects the Filipinos eagerness to meet the pope, sellers are urged to check the website of the papal visit to the Philippines to be guided properly. The website is www.papalvisit.ph.
