Mamma mia, here they go again!
ABBA is set to release its first album in 40 years and they’re even doing a series of virtual concerts.
If you’re not familiar, ABBA is a Swedish band known for their hits “Dancing Queen,” “Mamma Mia,” “Take a Chance on Me,” and “The Winner Takes it All.” The group is composed of Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad.
The new album will be called Voyage and feature 10 new songs. Two have been released and they’re called “I Still Have Faith In You” and “Don’t Shut Me Down.” A Christmas song titled “Little Things” will be part of the new album.
Listen to the two released songs below:
According to Andersson, “First it was just two songs. Then we said ‘maybe we should do, I don’t know, a few others. What do you say, girls?’ And they said ‘yeah’ and then I asked ‘why don’t we do a full album?'”
This announcement is a breakthrough for the band. When asked in 2014 if the band would perform again, Lyngstad said, “We only have one answer and that is no … No amount of money would change our minds. Maybe we sometimes say it would be good to do a song together again, just a recording and nothing else.”
The quartet, however, has remained close through the years. According to Ulvaeus, “It is incredible to be where we are, no imagination could dream up that. To release a new album after 40 years and to still be the best of friends…to still have a total loyalty. Who has experienced that?”
ABBA will also be doing a series of virtual concerts next year featuring avatars or “abbatars” of the four band members. The setlist will include 22 songs, a mix of tracks from Voyage, and classics like “Dancing Queen.”
The concerts will also be called Voyage and begin in May.
Voyage the album will be out on November 5, 2021.
