A Live-Action Gundam Movie is Coming to Netflix — Here’s What We Know!

It’s official! A live-action movie based on the popular Japanese franchise “Gundam” is coming to the global streaming platform Netflix!

Netflix made the announcement this week, revealing that the director of “Kong: Skull Island,” Jordan Vogt-Roberts, will be helming the project. No other details have been confirmed but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for future updates!

“Mobile Suit Gundam,” created by Yoshiyuki Tomino, first launched in 1979 as a television series and proceeded to rise to popularity due to the plenty of adaptations ranging games, toys, manga, and more. It also gained many sequels and spin-offs throughout the years.

Set in the year 0079 of the Universal Century, “Gundam” tells the story of the war between the Principality of Zeon and the Earth Federation, which unveiled a new giant robot known as the RX-78-2 Gundam piloted by the young mechanic Amuro Ray.

To this day, “Gundam” is a pop culture icon especially with the creation of Gundam Model Kits in Japan for all mecha anime fans and collectors all over the world. There are even life-sized Gundam statues that people can visit in Yokohama and Odaiba!
